AHA Heartsaver Instructor Class

The AHA Heartsaver instructor class is designed to prepare instructor candidates to teach AHA Heartsaver courses. It educates instructor candidates on the steps of the instruction cycle: Prepare, Teach, Test & Remediate, Close and keep current. This course includes information about instructing AHA Heartsaver courses.


Learning Objectives for the course

  • Identify the prerequisites to becoming an AHA instructor
  • Describe the usability of the Program Administration Manual (PAM)
  • Describe core competencies of an AHA instructor
  • Describe the 5 steps of the AHA Instructor Cycle: Prepare, Teach, Test & Remediate, Close, and keep current
  • Identify resources available to an AHA Instructor
  • Describe how to use discipline-specific AHA instructor materials: the Instructor Manual, Lesson Plans, Course Videos, and skills testing checklists
  • Identify discipline-specific course formats available to students for completion of the course
  • Describe discipline-specific course completion requirements
  • Describe discipline-specific flexibility options available to an AHA instructor within a course
  • Describe the requirements for how to maintain an AHA instructor status
  • Describe effective AHA instructor feedback and remediation techniques
  • Demonstrate the administration of skills testing with the use of the skills testing checklists
Class Requirements

1) Have A Current AHA HeartSaver or BLS Provider Certification

  • You will need to bring a copy of your current\non-expired AHA HeartSaver or BLS Provider certification.
  • If you do not have a current\non-expired AHA HeartSaver or BLS Provider certification or your certification is from an organization other than AHA please register for a HeartSaver or BLS Provider class for a date earlier than the instructor class.

2) The completed HeartSaver Instructor essentials

  • This is included in the course registration fee and will be sent to you from elearning@aha.org upon payment for the class.
  • You will need to bring a copy of the online completion certificate or email it to info@edcor.net ahead of the class.
  • If you are not able to access the online completion certificate please ensure you have completed the survey at the end of the course.

3) A HeartSaver Instructor Manual

  • The HeartSaver instructor manual is included in the registration fee and will be mailed to you upon payment for the class.
  • If you are registering for the class less than 14 days prior to the class please call EdCor at 303.997.8695 to coordinate getting the instructor manual at the Lakewood office.
  • The manual should be reviewed and organized into a binder prior to the class.

4) Complete the EdCor Training Site Agreement and bring to class.

5) Review and have available the Instructor Essentials Workbook.

After the class students will need to successfully teach at least 1 monitoring class. Details of options for scheduling a monitoring class will be provided during the instructor class.
 
 
Upon successful completion of the HeartSaver Instructor class and the monitoring class students, will be able to teach the AHA Heartsaver CPR curriculums within their organization\company, teach for themselves as an independent instructor or teach for an existing AHA training company.
 
Upon successful completion students will be issued a AHA HeartSaver Instructor certification valid for two years.

 

Corporate\Direct Bill Students

  • If you are affiliated with a Employer or Group that has a contracted rate or allows for direct billing.
  • Select the appropriate selection within the Registration Type.
  • This will display the contracted price or the deposit amount based upon selected Employer\Group. If the Employer\Group allows for direct billing, your payment\deposit will be refunded to you when you show up to the class and the Employer\Group will be invoiced.
  • If the invoice is denied or rejected by the Employer\Group you are responsible for payment and all materials
  • If you select an Employer\Group for which you are not authorized for, you are responsbile for payement for the class and all materials.

Class Materials (manuals, online key codes)

  • Class materials if needed can be purchased while registering for the class.
  • You can bring an existing manual to class if have one or your facility has them available.
  • If you do not purchase the required materials or have them available at class and pick them at class or have them sent to you at the class, if you have a card on file the charges will be charged to the card on file. If you do not have a card on file you will be sent an invoice, we are not able to issue certifications when there is an outstanding balance.

 If your schedule changes please contact EdCor as early as possible to avoid any fees and to allow the slot in the class to be opened to another student.
